A couple of years ago I wrote an article about the security intercom becoming more than just a doorbell (see here), and this has certainly now become the reality. In recent times we have been working closely with Fiber Corp, LBNCo, Open Networks, Capital Fibre Networks, OptiComm and other fibre network suppliers to overlay intercom and Foxtel / free to air TV systems on a fibre to the apartment (FTTA) network. Examples of such projects include the Stellar Apartments in Ryde with Fiber Corp and the Highline apartments at Westmead with LBNCo.

Overlaying the intercom, access control and CCTV network on a fibre backbone reduces the requirement for copper cabling to the apartment and up the riser by the electrical contractor. This in turn has the capacity to reduce riser space, the amount of active equipment in the risers and power requirements on common property, which altogether can help make the apartment building greener.

Beyond security systems and Foxtel/Free to air TV, FTTA also provides the opportunity to overlay data/telephone services, as well as the ability to monitor services remotely from one point on and off site.

We will be sharing more of our exciting combined FTTA projects in the near future so be sure to follow us on instagram @epsilon_security for more project updates.
